Cabin Mate Request Policy
Green Acres Cabin Mate Request Policy 2027
We know that a big part of the camp experience is spending the summer with friends. Green Acres makes every effort to place campers with a friend they have requested, and we take these requests seriously. At the same time, our cabins are built to give every camper a balanced, safe and positive group. To be fair to all families, the following conditions apply to all cabin mate requests.
Every summer, many campers come to Green Acres without knowing anyone and leave with friends they will have for life! Campers who do not submit a cabin mate request are placed in a cabin with other campers in their grade, often including others who are also new to camp, and our Counsellors and Unit Heads make it their priority to help every camper feel welcome and connected from day one. Some of the strongest friendships at Green Acres begin between campers who met for the first time in their cabin.
The cabin mate request policy is as follows:
- You may request up to 2 friends only for your child. Requests beyond two friends will not be accepted. If more than two names are submitted, only the first two will be considered.
- Requested friends must be in the same grade level and the same gender as your child. The gender requirement does not apply to campers who have completed Nursery, JK or SK, as these campers may be placed in either single or mixed gender groups.
- Cabin mate requests are NOT GUARANTEED. We will do our best to accommodate at least one of your two requests, however placement in a cabin with a requested friend cannot be promised under any circumstances.
- Mutual requests take priority. A request is considered mutual when both families have listed each other. Where a request is not mutual, it will be considered after all mutual requests have been placed.
- Cabin mate requests must be submitted and updated in your CampInTouch dashboard. Requests can be changed up until May 1, 2027. After May 1, 2027, requests are final and NO changes will be accepted by email, phone or in person.
- Green Acres will NOT accept requests to have a camper excluded from your child’s cabin. If you have a concern about a specific camper, please speak to one of our Directors or our Camper Relations Team prior to the summer.
- Requests will only be considered for campers who are enrolled in the same session(s). If a requested friend is not enrolled, is enrolled in different weeks, or changes their enrolment after requests are submitted, the request may no longer be able to be accommodated.
- Cabin placements are made at the sole discretion of the Directors and Camp Administrators. Requests will not be honoured where the Directors and Camp Administrators feel a placement would compromise the well-being, safety or overall balance of a cabin. See Green Acres Safe Camp Policy.
- Cabin placements are final once the summer begins. A cabin mate request that could not be accommodated is NOT grounds for a refund, credit or a change to your child’s enrolment.
- Our above cabin mate request policy will remain in effect with NO EXCEPTIONS.
Our goal is for every camper to feel at home in their cabin. Our counsellors and Unit Heads are experienced in helping campers build new friendships, and many of the strongest camp friendships are made with new cabin mates that campers did not know prior to the summer.
