Experience MattersWhile we are all hopeful that by the summertime life will look and feel a lot more normal, chances are we will likely still be facing restrictions and safety precautions related to Covid-19. In Summer 2020, we had to re-imagine a version of Camp that even 55 years in camping had not prepared us for. With strict Ministry of Health guidelines in place, we now had to rethink every aspect of camp – from how children would use the washrooms, how sports could be played safely, how counsellors would help children with sunscreen and how camp could still be fun while maintaining cohorts that would not intermingle. We put systems and protocols in place that we hoped would work once the campers arrived. Thankfully, with some adjustments along the way, we had a safe, successful and memorable summer!

Now we are planning for Summer 2021! Whatever version of camp we are faced with, we have proven that we can successfully adapt within a short period of time. We are not starting from scratch; we are using our invaluable experience from last summer and the time we now have to enhance and perfect our systems! Our experience has already enabled us to confidently re-introduce programs that we didn’t run last summer and we will continue to do so as the situation evolves.

We are thankful that we had the opportunity to open camp in 2020. We were given an unbelievable opportunity to do what we love while keeping campers and staff safe and happy, how could we say no! It was one of, if not the most memorable summer we’ve ever experienced. We are now incredibly excited to build on our success and to provide our families with a safe camp experience in 2021 without sacrificing the fun, the friendships and the memories!
