OUR GOAL IS TO DEVELOP EACH CHILD’S RIDING SKILLS AND THEIR APPRECIATION FOR HORSES IN A SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT

Instruction

Campers receive two English Riding lessons, a stable management lesson and other horse and barn related activities, in addition to a daily recreational swim. Registration is on a two week basis. A horse show is organized for parents at the end of the two weeks for campers to demonstrate their progress.

Summer Weekly Riding Lessons

  • Children receive a one hour group English Riding lesson weekly (maximum 5:1 rider/instructor ratio)
  • Introductory to Advanced lessons available
  • Horses will be already tacked up to maximize the child’s riding time (no need to arrive more than 10 minutes early)
  • Green Acres Day Camp Inc. and Cedar Creek Riding Stables Inc. are both licensed as Horse Riding Establishments by the City of Markham.  This license is your assurance of our commitment to providing your child with a safe and enjoyable equine experience!
  • Conveniently located in Markham
  • Riders must bring their own ASTM approved riding helmet and wear long pants and a shoe or boot that goes above the ankle with at least a 1/2 inch heel
  • Only the rider is allowed onsite. Please note that parents, guardians and/or spectators are NOT permitted to accompany child onsite (NO EXCEPTIONS)
  • No Bussing Available
  • Drop off and Pick up is at Cedar Creek Riding Stables (adjacent to Green Acres) at 10997 Kennedy Rd.
Registration Options:
  • July Weekly Lessons (Tuesday – Friday) starting July 12th – $165.00 + HST for 3 lessons
  • August Weekly Lessons (Tuesday – Friday) starting August 2nd – $220.00 + HST for 4 lessons
  • July & August Weekly Lessons (Tuesday – Friday) starting July 12th – $368.00 + HST for 7 lessons
Green Acres Riding Lesson Schedule

August 29 – September 2
5 Day Morning Riding Camp (10am – 12pm)

  • Children receive a one hour group English Riding lesson daily (maximum 5:1 rider/instructor ratio)
  • One Hour of Stable Management (ie. learning about horse care, different horse breeds, types of equipment, tacking up, brushing, bathing horses etc.)
  • Horses will be already tacked up to maximize the child’s riding time (no need to arrive more than 10 minutes early)
  • Green Acres Day Camp Inc. and Cedar Creek Riding Stables Inc. are both licensed as Horse Riding Establishments by the City of Markham.  This license is your assurance of our commitment to providing your child with a safe and enjoyable equine experience!

OUR ONSITE FACILITIES

Cedar Creek Horse Back Riding Stables has 1 grass ring, 2 sand rings, 1 sand pen plus an indoor sand arena as well as a viewing room. The barn lends a cozy feeling of closeness to horses. A renovated barn provides a well-ventilated place for riders to gather in comfort to discuss lesson plans and programs.

* RIDER LEVEL EXPLANATION

Introductory level: Suitable for those that haven’t ridden before. Rider is categorized in the introductory level until they have accomplished the following skill set: developed seat and leg position, steer independently, halt easily, and can ride basic figures such as a circle, and how to change direction.

Beginner level: Rider has some riding experience, is confident at the walk and is ready to learn the trot. Rider is classified as beginner until they have accomplished the following skill set: steer independently, halt easily, working on balance & overall position, comfortable trotting and working towards the canter.

Intermediate level: Rider is confident in their posting and sitting trot & is working on perfecting the canter. Rider is ready to learn how to jump.

Advanced level: Rider is confidently walking, trotting and cantering. Rider is working on fine tuning their jumping skills.

Every rider will be required to register for a Paid Assessment Lesson prior to taking part in this summer riding lesson program, unless the rider has previously ridden with Green Acres, Cedar Creek or Well Dressed Equestrian in the past year. This assessment lesson is to ensure that the rider is placed in the right riding group. Please email to inquire and register for your child’s assessment lesson as soon as possible but at least 2 weeks prior to the start of their riding program. 

TERMS & CONDITIONS

1. Applications cannot be confirmed unless accompanied by the required full payment of Green Acres Riding Lessons (GARL) fees per child. Your child(ren) will only be permitted to start GARL once fees are paid in full prior to the start of their GARL session.
2. Refund policy:
a) Your GARL fee is refundable if we cannot confirm your application.
b) From February 15 until May 1, 2022, your GARL fee is refundable, less a service charge of $50 per child. After May 1, 2022 GARL Fees are NOT refundable and are NOT eligible for a credit for Summer 2023. ONLY if the Government does not allow GARL to run will you receive a 100% refund on GARL fees after February 15, 2022. If GARL is shut down mid-season by the Government, you will receive a pro-rated refund for the days missed.
c) GARL may be moved within Summer 2022 at no extra cost as long as there is space availability. Extending your child(ren)’s number of weeks at GARL (example: extending from 4 to 8 weeks) will be subject to availability and the fees that are in effect at the time of the change. Shortening your child(ren)’s enrolment dates (example: shortening your weeks from 8 to 4 weeks) prior to May 1, 2022 will result in your GARL fees being adjusted for the enrolled weeks and a refund will be available for the outstanding balance. After May 1, 2022 your GARL fees will be adjusted for the enrolled weeks and you will be given a credit for the outstanding balance for Summer 2023 only.
There will be NO REFUNDS for a missed GARL for any reason, including but not limited to Child and/or Parent Satisfaction. Days missed cannot be made up. Assuming that we are allowed to open and operate in Summer 2022, our above refund policy will remain in effect with NO EXCEPTIONS.
d) Once your child(ren)’s GARL session has begun as per their enrolment, GARL fees are NOT REFUNDABLE.
e) Refund requests are made in writing to the Camp Registrar.
f) All refunds will be issued after September 1st within 30 days.
3. I agree that if my child(ren) is eligible or becomes eligible (please note that age eligibility can change at any time prior to Summer 2022) to be vaccinated against Covid-19, s/he will be fully vaccinated (per Health Canada requirements) at least 2 weeks (14 days) prior to the start of his/her GARL session in Summer 2022 and I will provide proof of vaccination as required by Green Acres Day Camp Inc. If your child(ren) is eligible to be vaccinated but you choose to not have them vaccinated and/or do not provide proof of vaccination at least 2 weeks (14 day) prior to the start of his/her GARL session, your child(ren)’s enrolment will be cancelled. Please note that the refund policy at the time of this cancellation will apply.
4. Green Acres Day Camp Inc. reserves the right to terminate the registration of any GARL child if, in the opinion of the Directors, it is in the best interest of the child or the program. In such event, a proportional refund will be made.
5. I agree to allow my child to participate in all GARL Activities and I give camp officials authority to act on my behalf in case of an emergency.
6. The Parent and/or Legal Guardian understands that they will need to fill out a daily assessment form for each child attending camp, attesting to the child’s good health and that they are not exhibiting any symptoms of Covid-19 (or any other communicable disease) and have not been in contact with any persons that have tested positive for Covid-19 (or any other communicable disease). Children will not be permitted onsite at Green Acres without submitting this form daily.
7. The Parent and/or Legal Guardian agrees to keep their child(ren) home if they are sick, not feeling well for any reason, and/or exhibiting any symptoms of Covid-19 (or any other communicable disease). The child’s return to GARL will be determined in conjunction with advice and consultation from local Public Health.
8. Green Acres is not responsible for the loss or damage to child’s belongings and/or equipment and/or other items at Green Acres.
9. Only the child that is registered for GARL is ALLOWED onsite. NO parents and/or spectators allowed.
10. The child MUST arrive 10 minutes prior to their scheduled GARL. Riders that arrive more than 5 minutes late will not be allowed to ride and NO refunds and/or credits will be issued for that day. NO EXCEPTIONS.
11. Horse and coach requests are not permitted.
12. The Child must be dressed appropriately for the weather and wear long pants, a shoe/boot that goes above the ankle with a minimum 1/2 inch heel and an ASTM approved riding helmet. Gloves are recommended to prevent blisters. Children not dressed in the proper attire will NOT be permitted to ride. No refunds and/or credits will be issued.
13. Rain/Inclement Weather: All GARL will be take place outside and will continue in light rain. GARL may be cancelled and/or rescheduled due to heavy rain, extreme heat, hail, thunderstorms, etc. Green Acres will notify you in such a circumstance. If cancelled, we will do our best to schedule a make up lesson. If this is not possible, you will receive a credit or refund for the missed lesson.
14. The Parent and child hereby voluntarily releases, forever discharges, and agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Green Acres and to waive any and all claims, demands, or causes of action, that the Parent and Child have or may have in the future against Green Acres and to release Green Acres from any and all liability for any loss, damage, expense or injury that the Parent and Child may suffer.
15. The Parent or Guardian hereby understands that Green Acres Day Camp will have zero tolerance for physical and/or verbal abuse towards any staff by Parents. Please respect the staff that look after the care of your children while at GARL. Any person found in breach of this condition may be asked to terminate their child’s time at Camp. In the case of camper termination, a refund for the remaining days would be issued.
16. The Parent or Guardian hereby consents to the use by Green Acres of the camper’s photograph or video image for publicity purposes.
17. Green Acres reserves the right to change or update our policies and/or programs, including but not limited to our Covid 19 policy as the Ontario Ministry of Health may make recommendations and/or changes to the Summer Day Camp and Horseback Riding guidelines.
18. This document in conjunction with our Waiver of Liability in relation to Covid-19 (or any other Communicable Diseases) and Riding Release Waiver sets forth the entire agreement between Green Acres, the Parent and the Child and supersedes and replaces all other discussions, agreements, (whether written or verbal), contracts, representations, promises, negotiations or any other matter. This document can only be changed, modified or amended in writing by both parties.
19. If any portion of this document is found to be void and unenforceable, the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect.

This program is best suited for campers with some riding experience. Half-Day Saddle Champs Program
This program is best suited for the novice rider. Campers enjoy the benefits of both Traditional and Riding Camp. This introductory half-day riding program is specifically designed for new riders to experience horseback riding while also having the opportunity to participate in camp activities with their Traditional Camp cabin group. Campers spend half the day in an English riding lesson and the other half of the day in Traditional Camp. Sign up for this optional program on a two week basis.
